Profylaxe met antibiotica is alleen zinvol indien de duur van de neutropenie langer dan 7 dagen is. Indien hieraan wordt voldaan zal profylaxe leiden tot een verlaging van de mortaliteit. Profylaxe wordt dan ook niet gegeven indien de neutropenie minder dan 7 dagen zal duren.
Kuren met neutropenieduur <7 dagen: (R)-C(H)O(E)P, DHAP, cyclofosfamide-mobilisatiekuur, R-FC, MM kuren.
